The National Centre for Circus Arts is a registered charity and one of Europe’s leading providers of circus education. Based in a magnificent Victorian power station adjacent to Hoxton Square, we involve thousands of people in the creation and performance of circus arts every year. Over half of the annual income needed to run the National Centre comes from grants and donations.

Our diverse range of work includes a BA Hons degree in Circus Arts, a structured progressive training programme for under 18s and professional development opportunities for aspiring and established performers. Job Profile :  Circus performers

Circus performers entertain audiences with displays of skills like acrobatics and clowning. Other skills include juggling and balancing on the trapeze or high wire. If you’ve got skills like this and love entertaining then becoming a circus performer could offer you something different.

You’ll need the confidence to perform in public and have physical fitness and stamina. Patience and concentration will help you to learn new skills.

You’ll need a high level of ability in at least one circus art. Your talent and skills are more important than academic qualifications.

Skills, interests and qualities

To become a circus performer you’ll need:

  • a high level of skill in your chosen performance area
  • the confidence to perform in public
  • physical fitness and stamina
  • good timing and coordination
  • versatility and creativity
  • self-discipline, motivation and a hard-working attitude
  • patience and concentration, for rehearsing and learning new skills
  • the ability to work well as part of a team
  • a willingness to take controlled physical risks
